I personally don’t think I have a situation like that. Everyone turned their back on me and let me burn, except for the few close friends I had.
However, one of my ex’s, a long time best friend of mine…
She went through a traumatic stage in her life when her employer wasn’t paying her. She was living in the beautiful city of Irvine trying to get by on her own without her parent’s help.
Times were tough for her. She took a risk to move away from her comfortable home with her family. She came from an upper middle class background, but she always had a sense of independence. She wanted to make it on her own and she didn’t want to depend on her parents to take care of her for the rest of her life.
She attempted, and as most people do, she failed. Since her job wasn’t paying her the wages she was promised, she fell behind on all her bills. She was getting drunk every night and faltering into becoming a hopeless mess.
She would get drunk and wouldn’t be able to face the pain she was going through, and would yell, cry, or even slash at my clothes. (Poor Versace and DKNY Black Label shirts… I hope you R.I.P.)
I wanted to help her but I was at a point in my life when I wasn’t doing that well either. I just got out of experiencing the real estate crash and then the stock market crash. Wait, this was 2008. I was right in the heart of a financial meltdown. Everyone lost their backs and she was losing hers.
There came a point where her electricity even shut off at one point. I lent her the money and helped her get back on her feet. I made sure that she could at least have lights in her home, even though there wasn’t much else I could do.
I shared stories of my failures with her and let her seek solace by my side, and our friendship stayed strong. Eventually, she recovered and is now off creating her life. While I’m here writing away and answering questions on a website called Quora.
