I’m 40 Years Old and Work from 9 to 5. Am I Too Old to Pursue Beginning a Startup?

It depends on what habits you’ve created in your work life for the last two decades.

Do you work for a big company? Do you suck up to your superiors? Are you a yes man? Do you sit around and do whatever you can to protect your job, like conspire against others, take other people down, or spread rumors?

Then no. You will be toxic to a startup. Or at least someone who takes up space and produces no results.

Are you the type of person who likes to work in a result oriented environment? Do you like leading others? Do you enjoy creating things? Do you have ambition to put in your all each day? Do you have a passion to make a difference with the company you’re building? Are you okay being in an environment full of young, hungry, talented people?

Then yes. You should go work at a startup.

Just keep in mind that there are risks involved. Young companies have a much higher chance of failing. So even if your dreams don’t pan out, you need to make sure you have enough of a financial cushion to look for the next dream to follow.

But don’t let your age be the thing to stop you from this.
