My friend was Skyping me one day while my mom was around. She wanted to talk to my mom instead of me, because, you know… she’s a lot more interesting than I am. I don’t blame her. If I was my friend, I’d rather talk to her instead of me as well. So they chatted.
In the conversation, my friend asked my mom, “Would you rather have Leonard marry a Vietnamese girl or a Korean girl?”
Mom, “Korean!”
Friend, “Would you rather have Leonard marry a BEAUTIFUL Vietnamese girl or an UGLY Korean girl?”
Mom, “Ugly Korean!”
Friend, while laughing like no tomorrow, “Would you rather have Leonard marry a BEAUTIFUL, SMART Vietnamese girl or an UGLY STUPID Korean girl?”
Mom, “Ugly stupid Korean!”
Friend, “So when would you consider Leonard to marry a Vietnamese girl?”
Mom, “Never! Vietnam people come from country with war! War country bad! Only Korean!”
P.S. I think my mom really didn’t like my ex who I wanted to marry before. She’s Vietnamese.
P.P.S. My mom still asks me when I’m going to marry my best friend, but I don’t want to. Regardless, she vanished and committed pseudocide anyway.
P.P.P.S. Maybe my mom is just racist and hates everyone. She always has something to say about all races.
Well, I kind of don’t really listen to my mom anyways and most of the things she says I just tone out completely, and since I don’t really get along with Korean girls at all… I’d say, go with your heart.
But then again, I think my mom would rather become a grandmother one day so she can have a baby to play with than to have her son die all alone, since the chance of me marrying a Korean girl are about the same as getting struck by lightning, twice.

This made me laugh! I’m Filipina and married to a white guy. My parents are OK with it but just the tone of this conversation reminds me of other conversations I’ve had with my mom. I tune her out too =P Thanks for sharing!
