Yes. It is absolutely a waste of time, not only to yourself but to everyone else who reads the answer to a question that says “Google it”.
The reason people contribute thorough and well thought out answers on Quora is so that when someone does Google it, Quora pops up as the result.
Why would Google move a page that says “Google it” to the top of their search results?
Oh yeah. They wouldn’t.
So by reporting the answer as not helpful, you’re helping to clean up the mess that the people who have no understanding of how search engines work are creating.
