How Do I Get Self Confidence After Facing Much Rejection?

Someone on Quora asked:

As far as I can remember, I have been rejected. I have been rejected from friends until I was in high-school, I have been rejected from different opportunities, and now I am being rejected from job opportunities. It makes me feel worthless. If I get rejected from most things I apply for in my life, how do I get self confidence?

This was my response:

There’s billions of people out there. Millions of opportunities. Millions of jobs.

Supposedly at the end of the day, we have less true friends than we have fingers, one significant other and one career. In order to only have one, we need to sort through many people and opportunities. Some, we will reject. Others will reject us.

Being rejected continually is just the way of life. Something we must accept. Then when it is all said and done, we find that one person. That one opportunity. That one career that we stick to for life.

It’s okay to feel disappointed today. However, dust yourself off and pick yourself back up. It isn’t personal. They are not saying no to you, they’re saying no to the opportunity of working together. Each no you receive brings you that much closer to the one yes that you’ve been looking for your whole life. So keep moving forward. That yes will eventually come. And when it does, you will be grateful you stuck it through and held out for the long term.
