How I Initiated a Casual Chat with an Angel Investor

Back at the beginning of January, an Angel had informed me that he wanted to meet.  We decided to get dinner and spoke for four hours, about life, Quora, and many other things.

I think I was the more curious one, because I kept asking him what he did with all his free time.  I just imagined what I would do if I have a ton of money in the bank and how boring it would be, so I really wanted to know what he kept doing to keep his time occupied.

He talked in detail of what he’s doing.  I talked in detail of what I’m doing.

The most important question I asked him was if I should make business cards without a phone number, as I hate to be contacted by the phone.  I told him I just wanted to put my email address and my BBM, mostly because no one uses BBM, which would mean they would have to go out of their way to download to program just to message me, meaning they really really really wanted to talk to me.

He then proceeded to give me his business card.  I took a look at it and flipped it over, then I flipped it back.  It was just his name.  Just twelve letters with a space in between.

It was epic.

He showed the card to me as an example of how I could avoid giving out my phone number. The idea is to give a card with my name, then write the BBM contact info and email onto it. After doing all that work, few would ask for my phone number.

He one upped my idea, by not only making it impossible to contact me by phone, but by making it impossible for others to ask for my phone number, period.

Through our chat, I didn’t ask him for a single penny, nor will I, as I don’t have a reason to.  However, he did offer up to introduce me to a few people who could potentially be strategic partners.  He also paid for the bill.  Very kind of him, I must say.

What’s most important to me though, at the end of the day, Is that I feel that I made a genuine friend.  A friend that I could trust, for quite possibly my whole life.  In this day and age, that is something that is quite hard to come by.  I certainly do hope he feels the same way, because he had left quite an impression on me.

I’m actually really glad that I met him.

What was his name you ask?  His name is Terrence Yang!
